Lot traceability gives a research team a defensible link between the material in hand and the supporting records used to review it.
What to keep together
- Material name, format and label image
- Lot or batch reference
- Analytical documentation
- Receiving date and condition
- Storage transition and location
- Internal disposition or use record
Where traceability often breaks
Common breaks include renaming a sample without preserving the source lot, separating a certificate from the receiving record, or applying one batch result to a different batch. A simple, consistent naming convention prevents much of this ambiguity.
